Having A Faulty Washing Machine (Won’t Drain)?

Spectrum Appliance Repair

An operative washing machine is a useful tool for getting dirt, sweat, and stains out of your clothing. The accurate way the washer cleans your clothes depends on the specific settings you choose, but the basic proposition is the same: first, the drum fills with water when you hit the “Start” button. After the wash cycle, it drains, and the first spin cycle begins. The drum refills clean water to rinse the clothes. Lastly, it will drain one final time and spins the clothes dry.

When you open the lid and after the washer stops running to find your clothes floating in the water, something is obviously wrong. The drum won’t drain, but why?

To resolve the problem, follow these restoring tips before you call professional help:

Reset!

For about a minute, unplug the switches of your washer to the switch. Then, plug the washer again. Open and then close the door six times in 12 seconds to reset everything. This may not work on all washing machines, but it’s an easy way to fix if your machine is compatible with this technique.

Test your Lid Switch Assembly

Washers with top-load will only drain and spin if the lid is completely close. Hence, a faulty lid switch assembly could be causing the problem.

See if your machine responds when you press the lid switch with your finger. If this prompts the drum to drain, you may utterly need to extend the stem on the lid so it depresses the switch. If nothing happens when you press the lid switch, it may be needed to be replaced right away.

See if the Drain Hose is Twisted!

Settle the hose behind the washer to make sure water can easily flow through it. If the hose is twisted, that could be the problem from not draining well.

Check the Drain Hose for Blockage

It is very common when a sock or other small piece of clothing gets into the drain system and clog or blocks the drain hose or pump. Remove the front panel and check for any blockage in these areas. If you find anything inside, remove immediately and see if the machine is draining well.

Be cognizant when you remove the hose to get the thing that clogs out the pump or hose, the water in the washer should draining out. To avoid a mess, ladle out as much water from the machine drum as possible before disconnecting the hose.

Clean Out the Coin Trap (If Applicable)

Some washers have a coin trap invented to seize foreign objects before they flow into the drain. Coin traps usually have a panel designed for easy access. If your washer has a coin trap, see and clean it out. See if the tub will drain now.

The Water Level Control

If it won’t drain or spin, the water level control may be defective. Open the control panel and look for a plastic tube connected to the water level valve. If it’s obstructed, clear it out using vinegar. If the valve itself is rusted, it may need to be replaced immediately.
